The brief
SellCarFast came to us with a hypothesis, not a product. The Australian car market is fragmented across a dozen half-working platforms: one for private listings, one for dealer stock, one for salvage, one for auctions, one for industrial and fleet. Nobody owned the whole picture. The bet was that if one marketplace could do all of it — cleanly, on one login, with trust baked in — it could become the default.
There was no existing codebase, no MVP to iterate on, and no legacy to protect. Green field. Which meant we didn't just redesign a funnel. We built the entire platform.
What we built
End-to-end: strategy, brand, product design, front-end, back-end, and the iOS companion app. One team, one timeline, no agency-to-dev handoff fatigue.
-
Five inventory categories, one experience
Used Cars. Recovered & Certified. Live Auctions. Salvage. Industrial & Fleet. Each category has very different buyers, trust cues and rules — but they all needed to live under one brand and search box. We designed a unified listing model flexible enough to hold all five without feeling like a compromise.
-
Live auction engine, 24/7
Real-time bidding with anti-snipe protection, 10% deposits to secure wins, integrated inspection reports, and a watchlist system. Built to handle concurrent auctions across the country without the UX falling over when bids spike in the final 30 seconds.
-
Search that actually understands intent
"White RAV4 hybrid under $50k in NSW" returns the right stock on the first try — across all five categories. We built the search layer to parse natural phrases, normalise messy listing data, and rank results by buyer signal, not just recency.
-
iOS companion, not a wrapped website
A native-feeling mobile app for bidding, watching, and managing listings on the go. Built to match the desktop experience where it matters and diverge where mobile deserves a different flow — the app is where most live auctions actually play out.
-
Trust architecture
In a category full of scams, the marketplace only works if trust is visible at every turn. Verified listings, inspection reports, bid-history transparency, dispute flows — all designed into the product from day one, not bolted on after launch.
-
Brand that belongs in the category
Sharp, modern, cinematic. Black-and-blue identity that reads "serious operator" against the sea of yellow Carsales-alikes. The brand was shipped alongside the product — one feedback loop, not two.
Marketplaces fail when the team building the product isn't the team thinking about the brand. We took both sides — which meant every category, every flow, every screen could speak the same language without a translation layer.
The outcome
SellCarFast shipped as a fully operational multi-category platform — five categories live, auctions running 24/7, iOS app in the store, brand consistent across every touchpoint. From a blank repo to a marketplace handling real listings and real bids in a single engagement.
The quietest win: the client never once had to translate between designer, developer, copywriter and brand. They briefed the outcome, we shipped the outcome.
We didn't hire an agency. We hired a team that ships products. The difference shows up in every corner of the platform.
